Swimming With a Yeast Infection

A question I am often asked is ‘Can I go swimming with a yeast infection?‘

The short answer is yes you can but it isn’t as simple as this. While it’s certainly possible that you can go swimming, it is generally not advisable. I will usually tell anyone suffering from a yeast infection to treat your yeast infection before you go jumping into a swimming pool. I give this advice for the following reasons…

A yeast infection is caused by Candida which is essence is a fungus (sorry to sound a little yucky). The fact of the matter is that fungal organisms will thrive in damp warm areas. So, Why is swimming with a Yeast Infection a Bad idea

It’s all to do with your body and the chemicals in the water. Most pools have a very specific pH and chlorine level which is hygenic for swimming, but also perfect condition for Candida to flourish and overtake the good steps you have already taken.

Yes I’m going to help you out. While i really do recommend that you take steps to cure your yeast infection as fast as possible sometimes this can’t be avoided. The first thing is, the moment you have finished in the swimming pool make sure any affected areas are dried out as soon as possible. It is also a good idea to rinse yourself off with some fresh water too.

I definitely recommend you take your bathing suit off as soon as possible because keeping it on will only aggravate the condition and make the yeast infection even worse.

So to sum up, it is still possible to go swimming with a yeast infection but I do not advise you to do so. It is much better to work on clearing up your infection as quickly as possible so that you can move on to doing all of the activities you love and enjoy.
